When the season changes, I like to re-evaluate my self care strategies. And since this coming season is fall, we’re heading into the last few months of 2022. Here are 5 ideas to try out as you head into the end of this year.
1. Go For a Walk
Ok, this one might seem basic – but hear me out. A *fall* walk is different than a *summer* walk. Getting out in the brisk air can have a powerful effect on our mental health. Picking a walking area that feels safe and relaxing allows our true thoughts and feelings to find their way to the surface. Our true selves know what we care about, what hurts, and what feels healthy. Getting in touch with this brings us back to center.
2. Post a Goal on Your Bathroom Mirror
Take a moment to think about a goal you would like to accomplish. Then answer this question: why is this goal important to you? Once you’ve answered that, you’re ready to post it and work toward it. On a sticky note write the goal down and post it on your bathroom mirror. Your subconscious will begin to manifest this goal as you remind yourself that you care about it!
3. Start a New Habit
When starting a new habit, think about what you need in your life to increase your mental wellness and decrease your anxiety. The thing that will help your mental health with serve as the foundation for your next habit. This habit should be a daily or weekly action that supports your wellness. Creating a reminder in your phone is a good way to keep your new action consistent. Then, after a few weeks evaluate how your new wellness habit is working for you!
4. Rearrange your bedroom
Having a space that gives us peace allows us to regain energy for our busy lives. Take a look at your current bedroom…does it bring you peace? If the answer is no it might be time to rearrange it! This process is not only cathartic, but also therapeutic. It’s amazing how different your space can feel when your bed shifts positions, or a cluttered corner becomes a space for a plant. In only a few hours our lives can feel refreshed with a new space to re-center ourselves. The anxious energy in your space can be transformed to calming, peaceful energy with little effort.
5. Plan a Winter Getaway
A getaway can be anything from camping in your own woods to basking on the beaches of Aruba. Having something fun to look forward to as winter approaches can lift our spirits and keep us motivated. Take a moment at dinner tonight to find a spot on your calendar for your special getaway. Whether it’s a weekend or whole week, make it a time tailored for your needs, budget, and mental health goals.
