Spring is here, which means Our Whole Living Counseling is getting ready to launch this year’s Walk & Talk Counseling program.
What is Walk & Talk Counseling? In some ways it’s the same as regular counseling, and in some ways it’s different. Let’s explore:
Similarities:
- The premise is the same. You and your counselor use talk therapy to explore the your problems and process your emotions.
- You set goals.
- You can explore the same topics in either setting: anxiety, depression, relationships, grief, etc!
Differences:
- In traditional talk therapy, you sit in an office – looking face to face with your counselor (or if you’re doing virtual, screen to screen.). In W&T – the “office” is the trail, and face to face becomes side by side.
- The environment changes. Generally speaking, vibe of the therapy office is pretty consistent. But outside? Your counselor can’t control the temperature, sunlight, & wind.
- You’re moving your body instead of staying put in the chair!
Which is better?
- We like them both. For some, the privacy of the office feels safer and more comfortable. For others, being able to move your body is an added layer of self care and therapeutic support.
How does it work?
- First, you set up a consultation with the W&T therapist of your choice. In the consultation, your therapist will explain exactly what to expect from W&T. When it’s time for your first appointment, you’ll meet at a designated trail and start the session. After the session is over, you and your therapist will review your experience during the session.
The rest of the details:
- W&T sessions happen on a trail in Berks County. The trail is easily accessible to people living in Reading, Wyomissing, Sinking Spring, Exeter & most places in Berks. Once you’re signed up, your therapist will let you know which trail you will meet on.
- W&T sessions are 50-minutes long.
- Right now, our counselors Cori White & Justin Trice offer W&T. Cori’s rate is $130 and Justin’s rate is $100.
- W&T sessions happen on Friday afternoons. Before inquiring about W&T, please make sure your availability matches Friday afternoons.
